Comprehensive Research on Economy and Business Administration Focusing on Establishment of a Sustainable Society

Takeshi Mizuguchi
Dean, Graduate School of Economics and Business Administration

TCUE's Graduate School of Economics and Business Administration was established in 2002 and commemorated its 12th anniversary in April 2013. Although it has only a short history compared with the Faculty of Economics, with its 50-year history, this graduate school has strived to contribute to society by nurturing several full-time instructors of universities and human resources who are playing active roles in various fields in Japan and around the world.

Master's courses of the Department of Modern Socioeconomic Systems and the Department of Modern Business Administration provide curriculums in which students can deal with issues concerning economy and business administration with broad historic and social perspectives based on economics and business administration/accounting, respectively. These courses welcome applicants with the following profile:
1. Individuals who aim to become a highly specialized professional or researcher
2. Individuals who continue to have an interest in study and research on economics and business administration as well as aiming to have a broad and valuable education
3. Individuals who aim to acquire a master-grade teaching certificate for junior high/high school
4.  Individuals who are eager to organize their own experiences and life as a professional into a master's thesis

In the Doctoral course of the Department of Modern Economics and Management, postgraduates engaged in highly specialized research full of originality and creativity aim to acquire their doctoral degrees. This course has provided researchers based in universities and think tanks and highly specialized professionals employed in companies and municipal governments.

Japan has experienced a period of national crisis since the Great East Japan Earthquake hit the country on March 11, 2011. Sustainability, which this graduate school has raised as its theme since its foundation, is now sought in earnest by Japan's citizens. In today's society, negative influences of centralization and unipolar concentration have been revealed and problems of existing academic theory based on partial rationality have been disclosed. We believe that the comprehensive study of economics and business administration at the Graduate School of Economics and Business Administration of Takasaki City University of Economics, located in Takasaki City, a core city of the North Kanto area, which seeks through general rationality to realize a sustainable society, is becoming increasingly valuable and essential.
